Arcane Attack

OK Hastur I got a one for you in regards to Arcane attack.

I understand Arcane attack must be either Casting or Channeling and can both be used in Melee(Finesse) or at Range.

Now where I'm unclear is How the Rank benefit for having Arcane Attack R3 (which is described as being like Weapon attack).

For Exemple:
A starting Geomancer takes Arcane Attack (Casting) at Rank 1 with 3 AP (an earlier question confirmed the Rank and AP apply to both melee and Range).

Does he get:
1) Arcane attack: Casting (Melee) and Arcane attack: Casting (ranged) at R1 AP3. and Arcane Casting: Channeling (Melee/Ranged) at R0)
2) Arcane attack: Casting (Melee/Ranged) at R1 AP3. and Arcane Casting: Channeling (Melee/Ranged) at R1)

Later on he improve his Arcane Attack (Casting) at Rank 3 with 32 AP.

Does he get:
1) Arcane attack: Casting and Arcane attack: Channeling at R3 AP32. and Arcane Attack: Channeling at R0
2) Arcane attack: Casting and Arcane attack: Channeling at R3 AP32.
